From Trailguru
Trailguru routes enable you to share routes with other users and to follow routes that other users have created on your GPS. This page is intended to be a quick start guide for creating routes using the two most common methods of creating them: 1) using a captured GPS track or 2) creating a route from scratch. Note that method 1 has apparently been temporarily disabled. See http://www.trailguru.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=49#p166
Using a captured GPS track is the easiest approach – you simply take a GPS with you the next time you do the route and capture a track. When you return home, upload this track to Trailguru. Trailguru will then process it overnight and add it to the trail database. Once processed, return to the uploaded track page and click the “Create Route from this Track” link on the top line of the track.
Trailguru will ask you for a name and description for the new Route and then automatically create a route using the trail segments that your track covers and take you to the newly created Route page. From here, you can edit the route to perfect it.
The alternate route, often used when you don’t have a GPS to capture a track or when you are planning a route to do that you haven't done before, is to start with a blank route and add trail segments, other routes, or waypoints to it. You can start creating a route from any page in Trailguru. Just type “Route:MyNewRouteName” into the search text box to the left (using an appropriate name for your route instead of MyNewRouteName) and press Go. If no routes with the same name already exist, this will ask you if you would like to create a page with this name (just like any wiki page). Click this link and enter descriptive text about your route (and a category if appropriate) and save the page. This will take you to the created route page where you can add trail segments, routes, or waypoints to it.
